Indigenous Education Council

The Indigenous Education Council (IEC) provides the voice and vision for Indigenous Education within the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (Âé¶¹´«Ã½). The IEC provides input, advises the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ on matters pertaining to the Board Action Plan for Indigenous Education and provides a strong advocacy role for parents and the community that also includes the Multi-Year Strategic Plan for the Board. The council is comprised of Indigenous community members, secondary students, parents/guardians as well as Dufferin-Peel staff with the Indigenous Education Department.

Council Structure

Where possible a range of regions (Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon and Dufferin County) within the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ will be represented by Indigenous students and guardians. Representation will also include members from Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Six Nations of the Grand River, Credit River Metis Council, Tungasuvvingat Inuit as well as local Indigenous community members. Council members will serve a term of 1 year. 

Meetings

The council meets five times throughout the school year (3:30pm - 6:30pm dinner provided) and one full day meeting in June.

Applications will be reviewed and successful applicants will be notified towards the end of June 2025.

Adult members of the council will be required to have a criminal reference check as well as a vulnerable sector search. This includes students who are over the age of 18.
